Dr. Glenn E. Nierman (BM, Washburn, 1972; MM, Cincinnati, 1977; DME, Cincinnati, 1979) is currently Steinhart professor and Associate Director of the School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to beginning work on advanced degrees, he taught instrumental music in the Topeka Public Schools. He has authored numerous journal articles, made presentations at MENC-The National Association for Music Education National Conferences, and given addresses at World Congresses of the International Society of Music Education (ISME) in Finland, Canada, Austria, South Africa, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia. Dr. Nierman co-authored the "Changing Concepts of Teacher Education" chapter in The New Handbook of Research on Music Teaching and Learning (2002) published by Oxford University Press and was selected to edit a book in MENC's Benchmarks series. He is past chair of the ISME Music in Schools and Teacher Education Commission, and is currently President of the MENC's North Central Division. His research interests are in the areas of assessment, teacher education, and instructional strategies. Honors and awards include recognition for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching (1987) and receipt of the Steinhart Distinguished Endowed Professorship in Music Education (1998).
