Ms. Butler was personally selected by composer Gian Carlo Menotti to portray the role of The Secretary in The Consul under his direction for productions at Chicago Opera Theatre, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Connecticut Grand Opera, Mississippi Opera, and the Edinburgh Festival.
Solo concert appearances include the Brooklyn Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony, Chicago’s Grant Park Symphony, Columbus Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, The Juilliard Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, Basel Chamber Orchestra at the Zurich Tonhalle, the New York City Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, Lincoln Symphony, the Oxford City Orchestra at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford, UK, Cambridge University, UK and at Carnegie Hall.
In addition to receiving the Médaille de la Région de l’Auvergne, Ms. Butler has been awarded the NIMT George London Award, was twice a finalist in the Eleanor Steber Vocal Competition, was a Midwest Regional Winner for the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and a Regional Winner and recipient of the Levy Award for the San Francisco Opera Auditions. Ms. Butler received her B. M. and M. M. in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University, was a scholarship student in the Professional Studies Program at The Juilliard School and studied as a Doctoral Fellow at Indiana University. Ms. Butler has taught at California State University at San Bernardino and Oklahoma State University. She is presently Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
